BRITAIN SOCCERManchester United striker Wayne Rooney has perked the interest of film director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. The legendary auteur, whose powerful dramas include Ammores Perros and Babel, believes that the football hero Rooney has all the qualities of a star.

Recently the Mexican moviemaker directed Rooney and Real Madrid poster-boy Cristiano Ronaldo in a TV commercial, but while Ronaldo’s chiseled latin looks might make him the obvious choice, Inarritu insisted only one of them has true Hollywood star quality.

“Wayne is a natural. He’s from the streets and has a warrior appeal that could serve him well in movies,” the Daily Express quoted Inarritu as saying.

“Cristiano was very uncomfortable during filming and even had a panic attack at one point. I don’t see him making it as an actor,” he added.

We can only wonder what cinematic treats the director has in store for his next film. Inarritu is known for his intricately interwoven plots, connecting otherwise fragmented lives into a visceral fusion of story. Perhaps he will take Rooney under his wing for his next project, but how well would he perform alongside the big names?
