R-Patz For Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis

Robert-Pattinson210Can Robert Pattinson escape his fate of toothy typecasting to more meaty roles? Well if David Cronenberg can help it he can. R-Patz has just been cast as the lead in his new film Cosmopolis.

It’s a story adapted from Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name which will have Pattinson star as Eric Packer, a reckless manipulator of international money markets. When a bet against the Yen goes spectacularly wrong, he’s targetted by enemies with the majority of the film taking place in 24 hours as he cheats his wife and desperately tries to avoid his fate.

R-Patz involvement throws into doubts previous reports that the film would star Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti and Marion Cotillard (Farrell has got other fish to fry with the remake of Total Recall, so it’s possible there were some scheduling conflicts) so it’s likely that we’re going to see a much younger cast instead.

Cronenberg wrote the script himself and has been trying to get it moving for quite sometime but he opted to film the Sigmund Freud biopic A Dangerous Method with frequent collaborator Viggo Mortensen along with Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley instead in 2010 (which so far has no confirmed release date).

Surely this can only mean good things for R-Patz’s career – after all he can’t be a sparkly, anaemic, teen wet dream forever.
