It’s Official: Mirren Is The Queen
It’s official: Dame Helen Mirren is the Queen of all Queens (well maybe except for the real Queen, although she has an unfair advantage). In a survey of monarchy loving film buffs, the fair people of our land deemed Mirren’s portrayal in The Queen to be their favourite royal film role.
The regal survey was staged by websites WENN and Fandango to promote Colin Firth’s award winning portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech, although tellingly, this month’s BAFTA nominated film was not included in the poll. If it had been in the running, we expect that the race might have been a bit closer.
Mirren came out top in the poll with 47 per cent of the vote, while Cate Blanchett came a gallant second with 31 per cent for her portrayal of Elizabeth I.
Completing the top five were Dame Judi Dench in third and fourth place respectively for her roles in Shakespeare in Love and Mrs. Brown, while Nigel Hawthorne was awarded fifth place for his title role in The Madness of King George.
