Ratings Winner Ricky Gervais Asked Back To Next Year’s Globes..
Conclusive proof that there really is no such thing as bad publicity comes in the form of the heavily-maligned Ricky Gervais being asked to return to present the Golden Globes for a third time in 2012. Those Hollywood A-Listers can’t get enough can they?
The Office star revealed the news while writing for heat magazine, but confessed that he didn’t know if he should accept the offer or not.
“The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. But I don’t think I should,” he wrote. “I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chatshow for weeks.”
There was a cyclone of rumour following Gervais’s controversial performance last month. (*Check out the best bits here*) Including speculation that the comic had been pulled off stage half-way through the performance and told that he would not be asked back again next year.
Gervais and NBC both denied the claims, but there had been a feeling that the broadcaster had definitely reacted angrily to some of the British star’s more acerbic lines – that is until they saw the ratings of course.
However Gervais stands by his earlier assertion that he did nothing wrong. “The weird thing is, the question is always, ‘Did Ricky go too far?’ And the answer is always, ‘No’, he added in the piece.
“I have yet to find anyone who was actually offended by it.”
