bradley-cooper300Bradley Cooper, star of The Hangover and The A-Team, has admitted he ‘would love’ the role as Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby.

The upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel will be directed by Baz Luhrmann, but Cooper admits that he has no idea whether Luhrmann – who directed Romeo + Juliet – is even considering him for the part.

“I don’t even know if I’m on Luhrmann’s radar,” he told the New York Times. “Maybe he’ll read this article after the role’s cast and say, ‘Oh. Ha. Yeah, that guy was never going to get it.’”

But Cooper enthused about Buchanan, saying “To me, he’s the best character in the book. He’s so complicated. He’s xenophobic, he’s an alcoholic, but he also understands some profound stuff about class.”

“Whoever plays it has to take a gentle hand, because it could so easily be stock, where he’s a rich jerk you don’t identify with at all.”

Whatever the outcome, Cooper certainly knows how to market himself – and an interview with the New York Times is may well help to get him noticed by the Aussie director.
