50 Cent Joins Supernatural Thriller Odd Thomas
The movie, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Dean Koontz, will be directed by Stephen Sommers (G.I. Joe, The Mummy series) and will tell the story of clairvoyant short-order cook known as Odd Thomas. Popular author Dean Koontz’s 2003 novel was a critical and commercial success and spawned three sequels, the last of which, Odd Hours, was published in 2008.
Sommers is the man behind the highly successful Mummy series, sitting in the director’s seat for the first two instalment and scoring $400 million a piece before handing over the reins to Rob Cohen for 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. His last two projects – Van Helsing and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra – failed to perform as well, despite their increased budgets (Joe’s $175 million tag as opposed to The Mummy’s comparatively paltry $80 million budget).
With a best-selling novel series as its source though, Odd Thomas being a commercial success could very well make it just the first in a new big screen franchise.
