Bridesmaids Sequel Planned
After making its $33m budget back in just eight days of domestic ticket sales (so far it has racked up $44m and counting) it looks like Bridesmaids is headed for one hell of a honeymoon, with the team behind it already looking to a sequel.
The American comedy directed by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow opens in the UK on 24th June and has already garnered high praise from US critics, some of whom have dubbed the film “The Female Hangover”. Apparently the studio are already keen to produce a sequel..
“It depends on how we do in the next couple of weeks, but I know it has already been brought up,” director Paul Feig told NY Mag. “When you get a group that is this good, it’s a crime not to use them again.”
Actress Melissa McCarthy, who plays the boisterous addition to the pre-nuptial gang, has already expressed her interest in returning for a follow up. “I will show up wherever these guys tell me to go, I’m in.”
Bridesmaids is co-written by Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig, last seen spouting profanities at Simon Pegg in Paul, and Annie Mumolo, with Wiig starring as the broke, unlucky in love maid of honour who tries to bluff her way through the pre-nuptial traditions to give her best friend the perfect wedding.
