david210Since Tim Burton dropped Maleficent last month, Disney have been looking for someone else to take the helm. Step up to the plate David O. Russell who is apparently interested in telling the story of Sleeping Beauty‘s darkest fairy.

The script is by Alice In Wonderland (bleh) writer Linda Woolverton (before you complain about AIW though, consider that she did write The Lion King and Beauty And The Beast as well – two of the finest films in the Disney canon). Angelina Jolie’s long been attached to star as the titular character – difficult to think of a better person really.

Apparently there are other directors that Disney are considering but Russell would be a good choice given that he’s told the story of a beleaguered underdog with a troubled past before in The Fighter.
