Michael Bay has alleged Steven Spielberg demanded Megan Fox be cut from the Transformers franchise following her “Hitler” comment in a 2009 interview with wonderland magazine.

Up until now Fox had claimed she left the series to pursue other acting opportunities – yeah right – but as the Transformers publicity machine fires up ahead of the June 29 premiere, Michael Bay let slip to The Mail on Sunday she left under direct orders of exec producer, Steven Spielberg, saying: “You know the Hitler thing. Steven [Spielberg] said, fire her right now.”

Back in 2009 Fox was asked what the best and worst things were about working with Michael Bay, to which she replied: “He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for.” Adding, “I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all.”

After the interview the Transformers crew chastised her; Shia LaBeouf said: “She started s**t-talking our captain, which you can’t do.” And one crew member wrote a cutting open-letter on Michael Bay’s website describing her as woefully unprofessional and “dumb-as-a-rock”.

Amid the controversy Fox was replaced in the third film by model, Rose Huntington-Whitely, in what will be her first acting role, ever.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon premieres in the UK on June 29.
