snake210Well that’s a relief. I thought we might have to sit through yet another tedious remake of a beloved 80s classic.

Thankfully, at least for now, New Line and Warner Bros. have decided that they’re not going to remake Escape From New York after all. There’ve been rumblings for quite some time about a possible remake with a rogue’s gallery of directors attached at one time or another including Brett Ratner, Len Wiseman, Breck Eisner and Jonathan Mostow.

Plenty of actors have been in consideration too including Gerard Butler, Josh Brolin and Jeremy Renner all thinking they’d look as cool as Kurt Russell in an eye patch. Apparently even Tom Hardy was offered the role – can’t really see him saying yes to that.

It was up until recently on the fast track to development with Wall Street 2 writer Allan Loeb crafting a new story which importantly kept the budget manageable

Warners have now let the rights lapse, so another studio could potentially pick up the baton. Sniper rifles at the ready everyone.
