A trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Susan Hill’s 1983 horror novel The Woman in Black has been released.

Starring Daniel Radcliffe, the film is the second attempt to bring the harrowing tale to the big screen, with the 1989 adaptation of the book consistantly voted one of the scariest films of all time.

It’s the actor’s first role post Harry Potter, with the retired wizard starring alongside CiarĂ¡n Hinds and Psychoville‘s Janet McTeer in the film, directed by James Watkins and featuring Jonathan Ross’s wife Jane Goldman as screenwriter.

Produced in part by recently reopened Hammer Film Productions, the film tells the tale of a young lawyer Arthur Kipps (portayed by Radcliffe), who leaves his son in London to settle the legal affairs of the recently deceased Alice Drablow. However, all is not well in the deceased woman’s village, as a series of inexplicable accidents and suicides forces parents to barricade their children indoors, as if protecting them from an unseen foe.

The film is set to be released in Februrary 2012 in 2D, rather than in 3D as originally planned.
