Ridley Scott To Direct New Blade Runner Movie
Lordy lordy lordy. Ridley Scott is currently hard at work on the Aliens prequel Prometheus about which we’re very excited. Something which is more worrying than exciting is the news that he’s signed on to do a new film as a follow up to seminar sci-fi movie Blade Runner.
At this stage, it’s not entirely clear if he’s planning to do a sequel or a prequel to the 1982 movie loosely based on Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? There’s also no word on whether orginal star Harrison Ford would be involved in any capacity.
The orginal, set in dystopian Los Angeles in 2019, saw Ford as Richard Deckard, a hunter of superhuman androids known as replicants who have escaped and are posing as humans on earth. But when Deckard falls for one of them, he struggles to stop her being destroyed.
There were talks of a sequel around the time the first was released but they ultimately came to nothing. The film is a landmark sci-fi film and a cult classic – any sequels have got a hell of a lot to live up to. At least it’s Ridley Scott who’ll be directing – that at least gives us some hope that something decent may come of this.
