Point Break Remake Planned

Why do we even bother making new films when there’s a masssive library of classics which can be endlessly plundered for reboots and remakes?

Point Break celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and Alcon Entertainment have decided that the best way to celebrate is to buy the rights and get cracking on a reboot.

The original was a gloriously ludicrous movie starring Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent called Johnny Utah (yeah!) who infiltrates a group of bank robbers led by Patrick Swayze who also happen to be surfers. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow who later went on to make The Hurt Locker – who’d have thunk it?

A sequel was planned called Point Break: Indo about a new agent’s attempt to track down Swayze’s Bodhi but that went nowhere owing to Swayze’s untimely death in 2009.

“The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring,” Alcon said. I’m holding out for a cop infiltrating a the extreme ironing championships
