Justin Timberlake Will Be Spinning Gold
Apparently Bogart was a famous record executive behind KISS, T.Rex, Donna Summer and The Village People, and was widely credited with the rise of bubblegum pop. He founded Cassablanca Records (despite being of no relation to Humphrey) and worked with producer Peter Guber who went on to be a big shot Hollywood exec behind Rainman and Tim Burton’s Batman.
Bogart has been seen on film before as he was the loose inspiration for Steve Waits, played by Paul Sand in 1980′s Can’t Stop The Music. Unfortunately, his life was cut short in 1982 at the tragically young age of 39 when cancer got the better of him. He was survived by two sons – Timothy Scott Bogart and Evan “Kidd” Bogart (himself a successful songwriter – who have just founded a production company called Boardwalk Entertainment that will produce the film.
It promises to be a rags-to-riches story of a poor New York kid who grew up to be a millionaire and helped define a musical era,
“Spinning Gold is a saga about a young dreamer who started with nothing and came of age in the 60s and 70s, believing anything was possible and every risk was worth taking,” says Timothy Bogart to Deadline. ”The main issue has been finding an actor who would embody Bogart. When Justin walked into the room, that was the moment I had been waiting for!”
It’ll hit production next year. Timberlake in the mean time is having a successful run with The Social Network and Friends With Benefits (we’re glossing over Bad Teacher) and will be seen next in In Time if Harlan Ellison doesn’t scupper the release plans with a law suit.
