Bridget Jones 3 Looks For A New Director
Where did this come from? It’s been seven years since the last Bridget Jones movie and while there were vague rumblings about a third, it’s not exactly been a trending topic of late. Well now it looks like the wheels are turning once again with the news that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has pulled out which doesn’t leave Universal with a lot of time to recruit a replacement for the planned start date of January 3 2012.
According to Deadline, Feig wrote a recent draft of the script which both he and Universal weren’t happy with, so they’ve decided to part ways with Universal reportedly looking for a British writer to reflect “English sensibilities”. That’ll be because Helen Fielding hasn’t actually written a third book on which to base a screenplay, although the series continued briefly in column form in The Independent – plotlines involved her getting pregnant by Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy planning to adopt).
Deadline go on state that the the principal cast members (Zellweger, Grant and Firth) are all keen to return. Firth certainly said he was interested in a recent interview stating “sometimes a third film is an improvement on a second” and “the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun”.
