John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, 2 Fast 2 Furious) has now expressed an interest in directing the film which follows the life of the late rapper, Tupac Shakur, after Antoine Fuqua backed out of the project.

Fuqua is now spending time directing Hunter Killer having reportedly struggled to find a satisfactory cast for the Tupac film.

Singleton recently met a cold front while waiting for a decision on a movie with Ice Cube, Straight Outta Compton, and was seemingly repulsed by the idea that Footloose remake director, Craig Brewer might take the Tupac helm.

Can you really imagine ‘To Live and Die in L.A.’ with jazz hands?

The screenplay has reportedly passed through the hands of Steve Bagatourian (American Gun) and Stephen J Rivele & Christopher Wilkinson (Ali, Nixon).

The film was previously pencilled in for shooting in LA, New York, Georgia and Las Vegas, but there’s currently no start date. Singleton has yet to officially sign. But for your fix, the L.A. born director’s Abduction is on release right now.

With all this talent on board the film should deliver a faithful portrayal of the murdered rapper with some strong emotional clout. Singleton knew and directed a young Shakur in Poetic Justice (1993) so with any luck he will sign on the dotted line asap.

Abduction is god awful. I mean the worst film I have seen in 5 years.

Lets hope it was a one off, I do not want “Tupac” to be a dud film. It has to be top class.
