Even though we can’t expect a release until December of 2014, James Cameron is spilling details to ABC’s Nightline about his sequel to the outstandingly successful Avatar.

Avatar 2 will again focus on Pandora, but Cameron says that as the story expands “there will be other planets as well, besides Pandora. It will be a cornucopia, a treat for the eyes.”

Cameron went on to reveal that the sequel will have the same eco-friendly undertones as the original, but this time the focus will be on the oceans instead of the rainforest. “We will see the oceans of Pandora, which we haven’t seen at all and that’s an ecosystem that I’m dying to start designing because it’s going to look spectacular.”

Not surprisingly, Cameron is developing the $2.782 billion earning original into a franchise, with two more movies planned as well as a Disney theme park. There’s no need to worry that he will forget what made the movie popular in the first place, he knows it’s about eye-candy first and hippy tree-hugging second.

“I’m not going to become more strident. I’m not going to say ‘well, we got away with this much environmental content in the first movie, now there’s double.’ Because I think that would be a mistake. It has to be entertainment first and foremost.” Good call, Cameron.
