Se7en Scribe Walker Writing 20,000 Leagues For Fincher
David Fincher is to team up with his old pal Andrew Kevin Walker with whom he worked on Se7en to make a new version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. While their previous collaboration was a twisted gem, it seems unlikely that their new take on Captain Nemo and his submarine Nautilus will be quite as dark, as the property is owned by Disney who made the first film starring Kirk Douglas and James Mason in 1954.
They probably wouldn’t take too kindly if the Captain hauled off and started decapitating his enemies.
A great under-sea adventure would be welcome (especially now that the >Bioshock movie has been cancelled), so let’s hope that all goes well – Fincher is notoriously picky when selecting his material (Benjamin Button notwithstanding).
Walker who also wrote 8MM, Sleepy Hollow and The Wolfman will get cracking shortly but it might not be Fincher’s next movie as he’s already got a number of other projects vying for his attention (including Scott Rudin’s Cleopatra which comes with previous Fincher collaborator Eric Roth dangled like a carrot).
