Evil Dead Reboot Planned
30 years ago, Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi were the creative forces behind the scariest movie to ever hit cinemas. Yesterday, Sony Pictures, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures joined forces to pick up the rights for their horror project Evil Dead and are now planning a remake.
The original follows five friends who stumble across the Necronomicon in a remote cabin in the woods. After they accidently use the book to release evil spirits, they are possessed until only one is left fighting for survival.
The remake will likely follow the same storyline, and Tapert stated, “For 30 years, Sam, Bruce and I have been looking for the right home where we could return the deadites to the big screen… Together, we are looking forward to terrorizing a whole new generation.”
The remake will see Fede Alvarez (who until now has only worked on shorts) directing and he penned the script alongside RodoSayagues. Academy Award winner Diablo Cody revised their draft and now it seems that The Evil Dead will begin shooting in the near future.
Unfortunately, Sony’s deal won’t allow them to distribute the film in the U.K. or France, so you’ll need to find another way to get your horror fix.
