Charlotte Gainsbourg Is A Nymphomaniac
The clown prince of unwise comedy comments Lars von Trier is at it again. By that we don’t mean that he’s upsetting people at the Cannes Film Festival, merely that he’s been casting his new film, The Nymphomaniac.
Unsurprisingly, it’ll star Charlotte Gainsbourg (who is still the only woman to work with him twice in Antichrist and Melancholia) as a woman undergoing what von Trier calls an “erotic birth”.
It’s news that first popped up way back in March when von Trier was considering two projects, the other of which was the wonderfully titled (but probably not very marketable Dirt In Bedsores). Variety reports that von Trier is planning two cuts of the film, a “hardcore” version and a toned down “softcore” version for mainstream audiences. That’ll get the BBFC ringing its hands anyway.
It’s still at script stage at the moment, so there’s no reports about what it might be like, other than it’ll be divied into eight chapters. Stellan Skarsgård is also being approached to star. It’ll shoot late next year, so watch this space.
