The 2012 Golden Globes Winners Announced

The Golden Globes was the talk of Tinseltown this weekend and Awards season begins to dominate January.  As expected, The Artist further cemented its front-of-pack status with three wins including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and Best Performance – Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical).

Alexander Payne’s The Descendants garnered a surprising victory with Best Motion Picture – Drama (another case of it being pushed in the wrong category – arguably it’s a comedy) and George Clooney nabbed Best Actor (my pick would have been Michael Fassbender for Shame but I can’t begrudge Clooney; he is excellent).

There was also a surprising win for Martin Scorsese for his ode to early cinema, Hugo (surely Michael Hazanavicius for The Artist or Alexander Payne for The Descendants would have been more deserving winners?).

Others followed mainly as expected with Meryl Streep picking up an award for Best Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher inThe Iron Lady (my pick would have been Tilda Swinton but it’s easy to see why Streep got it).

In a year that’s not been a great one for animation there could only really be one winner – the superb Adventures Of Tintin, although Rango definitely deserved its nod.  Quite what Cars 2 was doing on that list continues to remain a mystery.
