Vincent Cassel For Beauty And The Beast
Must. Remake. Fairytales. It seems every classic fairytale must get a new movie adaptation. Hollywood have been at it for the past year (Red Riding Hood, three million adaptations of Snow White, Jack The Giant Killer) but now France are getting in on the action as well. Christophe Gans is busy assembling a new version of Beauty And The Beast with Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux.
If that name doesn’t sound familiar, well, he did the live-action version of Crying Freeman that starred Marc Dacascos, the has-to-be-seen-be-believed Brotherhood Of The Wolf and uh, Silent Hill. The guy’s clearly got some great ideas at least, so a BATB remake might throw up something quite different from the norm.
Speaking to Indie Wire, he said “With this picture, I want to unleash my imagination. Although I will keep to a form of storytelling of this timeless fairy tale that is in keeping with the same pace and characters as the original, I will surprise the audience by creating a completely new visual universe never experienced before and produce images of an unparalleled quality. Every single one of my movies has presented me with a challenge but this one is, by far, the most exciting and rewarding,”
Cassel’s worked with Gans before on Brotherhood Of The Wolf and was going to star in his project Fantomas before that was cancelled. He’s also got a scene-stealing role in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method opposite Michael Fassbender which is out today.
Shooting begins in October.
