In the least surprising news since Matthew Vaughn signed up for the X-Men First Class sequel, Michael Bay has clambered on board for Transformers 4.

Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventure was chatting to MTV when he let slip that they’d locked Bay in for a fourth instalment.

“I think we really are going to do a reboot there,” he said, “But what that’s going to be, we don’t even know yet… We’ve got to get a story first.”

A story first eh? Well there’s a first time for everything. So begins the cycle of trilogies followed by inevitable reboots as Hasbro laughing uproariously while people’s childhoods are violated in front of their fearful trembling eyes.

The main cast aren’t confirmed yet but Shia LaBeouf has said he doesn’t want to be in any more Transformers films anyway – a good thing considering a) his character’s involvement in the last film was tenuous at best and b) he has as much charisma as a soggy Jacob’s cream cracker.

“It’s a hybrid because there’s still continuity going on, and there will be a lot of new cast,” he said. “Whether there’s anybody from the first cast, we don’t even know yet. But it’s going to be a whole new story.”

What it almost certainly will feature is more explosions than you can shake a stick of dynamite at. Expect Optimus and friends to be back on the big screen by 2014.
