On-Screen And In Love: 14 Real-Life Movie Couples
Whether it is shaded pink and marked with a dinner date or scrubbed out in black marker pen in your diary, today is the 14th February and there’s no escaping it. Love is all around us once again and the silver screen is no exception.
Acting out steamy love scenes and shmoozy love tales is just too much for some actors who let luuurve blossom and bloom off screen. as well as on.
Going from reel-to-real does not always work out long term but we are feeling all sentimental at OTB towers so we have lined up our 14 favourite on-screen couples – whether they lasted or not!
First Date: Days Of Thunder (1990)
Did the magic last? Nope. After filming several creepily intimate films together, the couple divorced in 2001.
First Date: Twilight (2008) – obvs
Did the magic last? Still going strong. Let’s see how they fare when the franchise runs out of opportunities for steamy on-screen action.
First Date: Cruel Intentions
Did the magic last? Sadly not. After seven years of blissful marriage, the fresh-faced pair went their separate ways.
First Date: Alfie (2004)
Did the magic last? Yes…no…yes…and then no. Even after Law cheated with their nanny, Miller got back with the British beaut but things have since fallen apart for the pair.
First Date: Daredevil
Did the magic last? Happily ever after. The couple are now expecting baby number three!
First Date: Mr & Mrs Smith (2007)
Did the magic last? To Jennifer Aniston’s dismay, yes it did. Still together, still gorgeous and still adopting children every other Tuesday.
First Date: Woman Of The Year (1942)
Did the magic last? This pair’s 26 year relationship never resulted in marriage but lasted from their first on-screen meeting in 1942 to Tracy’s death. A true Hollywood love story.
First Date: Scream (1996)
Did the magic last? The clueless cop and clued-up journo of Wes Craven’s slasher enjoyed 11 years of marriage but broke up in 2001. Sad face.
First Date: To Have and Have Not (1944)
Did the magic last? Til death did them part. Bogart was 44 and Bacall was 19 when they met and married in 1945.
First Date: Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Did the magic last? The pair broke up in late 2007 when their daughter Matilda Rose was just two years old. Tragically, Heath was found dead in his Manhattan apartment in January 2008.
First Date: Cleopatra (1963)
Did the magic last? This serial monogamist was married eight times to seven husbands. This pair were married twice from 1964-1974 and then again from 1975-1976. Speaking of Liz (shortly after divorcing her) Richard said: “She was lavish. She was a dark unyielding largesse. She was, in short, too bloody much”.
First Date: High School Musical (2006)
Did the magic last? Not once the secret, sexy nudie videos emerged. ROFL.
First Date: Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Did the magic last? Damn straight. And they now have a plush mansion in Santa Monica as well, the gits.
First Date: Fresh Prince of Bel Air(!) then again in Ali (2001)
Did the magic last? Abso-flipping-lutely. These guys have 14 years of celebrity marriage under their belts. Now that is an achievement.
