Orlando Bloom For Zulu

No they’re not remaking the 1964 war epic and no, Orlando Bloom isn’t reprising Michael Caine’s role as Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead. Instead he’ll be starring with Djimon Hounsou in Jérôme Salle’s Zulu, an adaptation of the book by Caryl Frey.

For those not familiar, Salle wrote and directed Anthony Zimmer which was remade as The Tourist starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

In Zulu, Bloom and Hounsou will play a pair of South African policeman investigating the murder of 18-year-old Nicole Wiese, the daughter of a Springbok rugby player in post-Apartheid South Africa.

Not the most inspired casting we have to say. Bloom has a fairly limited range – his best work remains Lord Of The Rings in which he was required to play an aloof, largely emotionless elf (a role he’ll be reprising in The Hobbit later this year). Most recently, he was seen in the utterly dire The Three Musketeers – not the greatest addition to the old CV.

Anyway, lets hope that Zulu proves that Bloom’s more than just a pretty face when shooting begins in July.
