Peter Craig, the writer of The Town is the latest writer to step up and have a crack at the sequel to Top Gun.  Last year it was reported that the gig had gone to X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz but they’ve since dropped out.

In fact, those guys didn’t even set pen to paper so quite why they’ve been given the push is a bit of mystery. Either way, it means that Craig will be starting with a blank canvas. That means there are absolutely no plot details but Variety is reporting that Tom Cruise and Tony Scott are likely to be involved in the production.

Meanwhile Peter Craig’s been working on a few other scripts – adapting Canadian comedy Fathers And Guns and contributing some ideas to Bad Boys 3.
