Things have got a little bit quiet on the Batman front of late, possible to try to avoid premature oversaturation before it hits our screen in July. But with the launch date fast approaching, Christopher Nolan has been a little more loose-lipped about two of the film’s new characters, Bane and Catwoman.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Nolan said of Bane, “He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” which is about as unenlightening a statement as you could possibly get, given the trailer and character background.

Tom Hardy was a little more forthcoming, saying of his character’s much-talked about muffled voice, “It’s a risk, because we could be laughed at — or it could be very fresh and exciting. The audience mustn’t be too concerned about the mumbly voice. As the film progresses, I think you’ll be able to tune to its setting.” Hopefully, as so far Bane sounds like he’s speaking through a mouthful of cake.

Of Selina Kyle aka Catwomn, Nolan said that she has, “a very strong way of protecting herself and those she cares about, which implies an underlying darkness.” – again about as illuminating as a broken torch.

Anne Hathaway said of the training required for the role, “Chris sat me down at the beginning and said, ‘Joseph Gordon-Levitt did all of his own fighting in Inception. That one zero gravity fight? He trained for two months.’ I basically left his office and went to the gym and just came out about five minutes ago.”

So there you have it, the smallest possible nuggets of new information about The Dark Knight Rises. Guess we’ll have to wait for anything more juicy.
