Rowling Will Write ‘Harry Potter’ Encyclopedia
Are you tired of being forced to sift poor grammar and erroneous fact from the vast collection of Harry Potter-themed Wikipedia pages? Have you exhausted the mega-site that is HarryPotterWikia? Then we have good – nay, great – news for you.
JK Rowling has decided to finally write a fully authorised Harry Potter Encyclopedia, which will catalogue the world she created while hopefully dishing out hot steamy plates of fresh backstory at the same time.
When was Azkaban built? Where the hell is Durmstrang? Where do Dementors come from? With a bit of luck the answers are just around the corner.
“For a long time I have been promising an encyclopedia of Harry’s world, and I have started work on this now,” said Rowling on her website. “It is likely to be a time-consuming job, but when finished I shall donate all royalties to charity.”
We won’t have to wait too long for the first material though, after the author explained how “some of the encyclopedia forms the new content in Pottermore.” (The site she constructed that would be dedicated to the World of Harry Potter).
This isn’t the first time that someone has tried to create a Potter Encyclopedia and Rowling took a publisher to court in 2008 after they planned an official companion to the series. Rowling explained that it represented a “wholesale theft of 17 years of my hard work.”
Her first novel for adults ‘The Casual Vacancy’ will be published in September.
