Mark Ruffalo To Star In True Life Wrestling Drama Foxcatcher
Mark Ruffalo will next be seen tearing up the big screen as the muscle-bound Hulk in Avengers Assemble (unfortunately we’re not allowed to say much more as the review is embargoed till the 20th) – but if he signs on for Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, he’ll been needing to hit the gym for those bulging biceps, not the CGI lab.
Miller, who directed Moneyball last year, has been working on the movie for a few years with E Max Frye and Capote scribe Dan Futterman.
The film will be the true story of John du Pont (Steve Carell), the heir to a vast chemical fortune who built a wrestling training facility on his estate called Team Foxcatcher. Unfortunately, Du Pont also suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and during one fit in 1996, he shot and killed his friend, Olympic wrestler David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo assuming he signs).
Channing Tatum is set to star as Schultz’s younger brother Mark, a fellow world champion wrestler (and an easier image to fit onto the brawny Tatum). Assuming all goes well, Miller should start filming in October.
