Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Grow Little Shop Of Horrors
Marc Platt is the guy behind the production. He may not be a household name but he seems like the right man for the job having had extensive experience with both film and stage. He brought us the stage version of Wicked (with the film version in the works) and both the stage and film versions of Legally Blonde. And as the most well-known incarnation of Little Shop Of Horrors in the 1986 musical version which was itself adapted from an off-Broadway play, he seems like the perfect fit.
The story if you haven’t seen it centres on a nervous florist called Seymour (originally played by Rick Moranis) who finds fame with a giant carnivorous plant. It was originally conceived by Roger Corman in 1960 but became much more well known when Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin, James Belushi and John Candy starred in the ’86 version.
Glee writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be writing the script and his background probably means that they’ll be retaining the musical parts.
No director’s attached yet, so it’ll be a while before it makes it to the big screen. JGL already has his hands full with his own directorial baby starring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza and he’ll next pop up in The Dark Knight Rises out on July 20th and Looper which is out at the end of September.
