The Conan Workout Challenge: Final Week

The final week is here of Eric Laciste’s backbreaking AR7 Conan The Barbarian workout is upon me. I can hear the distant chorus of cherubic angels and the celebratory sounds of my congratulatory parade of honour. Or alternatively, the sounds of the microwave defrosting a meal for one and bubbling of potatoes on a hot stove.

It’s been tough, and I’ve gone through three weeks of unenviable physical pain and tastebud annihilating tedium (Week 1, Week 2, Week 3)

Right, time to finish strong and knuckle down to the serious business of punishing my body. I will carve myself into a vascular fortress of steel if it kills me.

As before, here are the beginning of the week photos:

The Conan Workout Challenge Week 3

It’s Week 3 of Eric Laciste’s AR7 Conan The Barbarian workout. I’ve already endured two weeks of this (Week 1, Week 2). That means that after these next two weeks are I can stop pounding the floor with my fist in agony and actually get back to the serious business of eating pies.

I’m starting to get really bored of the diet. I got quite into it the first week but now I’d kill for a roast potato – a glistening golden, beautifully crunchy roast nugget covered in gravy. But nope, no carbs after 4pm for me. It’s starting to affect my dreams. I’m sure dreaming about spuds isn’t healthy.

Anyway. Enough moaning and on with the exercise.

My muscles don’t feel too bad this week, so I’m determined to attack it with more zeal than ever.

As before, here are the beginning of the week photos:

The Conan Workout Challenge Week 2

After enduring the punishing regime of Eric Laciste’s AR7 Conan workout last week, the only thing that felt crushed was my ego and my fragile body.

Thursday’s workout left me a broken man. whimpering about my back for the entire weekend, walking about like a crippled octogenarian mollusc. I tell you, if there was a prize for competitive whinging, I’d be winning hands down.

This week I’m determined to get back on the horse of back breaking exercise.

It’s only week two of four and the end doesn’t even look remotely in sight. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be shaking my fist at the sky screaming “LACISTE!” by the end of the regime.

Here are the end of week 1 photos – see if you think there’s any difference:

The Conan Workout Challenge Week 1

Right, well we all saw Conan a couple of months ago didn’t we? And we all saw Jason Momoa, a hulking beast of a man who looked like he’d been assembled in a shipyard by a team of elves. The guy probably eats villages for breakfast.

Now, Christmas is coming up and I thought that I could do with being in a bit better shape (round is a shape I know). With that in mind, I’ve agreed to take part in the Conan The Barbarian Workout Challenge compiled especially for journalists by Eric Laciste, Jason’s personal trainer. It’s called the AR7 workout. Although Argh7 would probably be closer to what it feels like.

Firstly, I’m reasonably fit. I’m a martial artist with an instructorship in Kali (www.karasackali.co.uk) and I train four times a week, but you can always do more. Read Week 2′s here and Week 3′s here.
